Who Am I?

There are several reasons for starting a blog. First, as a scientist, I want to share ideas and insights related to my work on mind-brain relationships. Second, I want to share ideas from my more creative side, which to date include two books of poetry, an autobiography, and a prescriptive nonfiction book on the anxious, monkey mind. Organizing my life on paper in the autobiography was satisfying, for the process allowed me to detect patterns in my life, which like all lives make a messy set of data points. Searching for patterns in this immense array of events is the reason I became a scientist. Third, as a teacher, I want to help others and I see my experiences as an opportunity to share the personal, scientific, and spiritual lessons learned over a lifetime. I hope you enjoy the contributions.

“Buddhists think of Original Mind, the mind that humans are born with, as a clear mirror, pure and unencumbered, without shape, form or color, with nothing in it whatsoever. More than that, it is a mind without birth and death, neither male nor female, not young or old; not intelligent, not stupid; not rich, not poor. It shows no dualism, no separation, and accepts everything as one unified whole.”
